Dear Heidi, Greg and Heather - GatheringPlace (www.gppt.org <http://www.gppt.org> ) provides essential day program services for the Intellectually and Developmentally Disabled (IDD)
community in Jefferson Co.
In recognition of this they were awarded a $450,000 grant from the DSHS Dan Thompson Account https://www.ddc.wa.gov/dd-council-activities/dan-thompson-advisory-committee <https://www.ddc.wa.gov/dd-
council-activities/dan-thompson-advisory-committee> to build a facility to house these programs. On June 2, 2025 DSHS wrote that they will terminate this grant "as there has not been
sufficient progress".
This is not accurate. Though it has been a long process with several stumbling blocks GatheringPlace has made significant progress. They have:
--Purchased property in Port Townsend in August 2024
--Have paid for building design with issuance of building permit imminent.
--Excavation and foundation work scheduled to happen June 16.
--Fulfilled the requirements from Dept of Commerce which administers the funding.
--Ordered the SIP (Structural insulated) panels.
If there is anything you can do to prevent GatheringPlace from losing this essential funding it will be greatly appreciated by the Jefferson Co. IDD community.
In addition to the regular GatheringPlace participants both Port Townsend and Chimacum schools utilize the programs for their transition programs.
GatheringPlace has provided services to the IDD community for 31 years in various temporary facilities. Currently they utilize the Art Building at the Jefferson Co.. Fairgrounds but
this is temporary.
Currently they are engaging 24-30 IDD adults attending enrichment activities. Attached is some additional information.
Please don't let DSHS terminate this essential grant - it would be a huge setback for the IDD community.
