JEFFERSON COUNTY Ott WA 11141 #* FARMERS • MARKETS ' #* PORT TOWNSEND • CHIMACUM Dear Jefferson County Lodging Tax Advisory Members, Thank you so much for supporting the Chimacum Farmers Market (CFM) for its 16th season this year. With your support, we increased the reach of our Chimacum and Jefferson County Farmers Markets and served our community and tourist shoppers with vibrant and engaging markets. Thanks in part to your partnership, the CFM grew this season in vendor sales, the number of participating vendors, and the number of shoppers. This year we had record breaking small business participation in the CFM with 40 farm, food and arts businesses from Jefferson and Clallam County joining the market. Direct sales between these small businesses and market shoppers were nearly 30% over 2023 with a total of$201,728 earned by small businesses at the market. This sales growth especially benefited local farms with farm sales making up 55% of total CFM sales. Aside from the benefit of the CFM for local small businesses, the market supports a vibrant local community with food access programs serving 1,000 community members experiencing food insecurity by stretching their federal food benefits and with free events that bring our community together. Your support for live music and kids' activities both draw tourists to the market and make the market a vibrant space for our local community to gather. We significantly grew our visibility this season by combining grant funds from Jefferson County Lodging Tax (LTAC), Port Townsend LTAC, and a USDA Farmers Market Promotion Program advertising grant. This year, we used LTAC funds to pay for the following: • Digital advertisement in the Seattle Stranger and Seattle Times • Print advertisement in the Waterside magazine • Print advertising in the Leader and Peninsula Daily News visitor guides • Promotion in the Olympic Culinary Loop • Hosting live music at the market • Hosting kids' activities We additionally used LTAC support to leverage other marketing grant funds that allowed us to boost social media posts locally and regionally, advertise both of our markets for more dates in the Seattle Times and Stranger, run print advertising in our local newspapers quarterly and print and distribute spring and summer postcards at local lodging and visitor centers. We also received a Washington State Tourism grant that funded a photo series highlighting 27 market businesses and two farmers market promotional videos. We shared these videos regionally via our social media and website and locally on the Rose Theater screen. These marketing efforts reach hundreds of thousands of local and regional viewers. Ongoing LTAC support helps us ip JEFFERSON COUNTY it• FARMERS MARKETS ** attr PORT TOWNSEND • CHIMACUM secure other grants that engage visitors to Jefferson County from all over Washington State and beyond. This year, we counted 9,752 shoppers at the CFM. This number is a direct count of shoppers entering the market. Of our market visitors, approximately 55% reported visiting from outside of Jefferson County. This number includes visitors from all over the states, approximately 20% of whom reported staying at local lodging while on their visit to the county. These numbers are representative, generated by a monthly dot survey that we hosted at the farmers market. We can see that our regional promotions are significantly benefiting our rural farmers market, the small businesses it supports and our local economy. Tourists from outside of Jefferson County make up more than half of our rural farmers market visitors and 20% of CFM shoppers report staying at local lodging as part of their county visit. Looking at these data points against CFM shopper attendance, the CFM generated about 5,360 visitors to Jefferson County and 1,950 visitors to local lodging establishments. Thank you for supporting our local farmers markets, community, farmers, and art and food businesses. Together, we are making Jefferson County a regional tourism destination and a more vibrant place to live. Please contact me with any questions.
