Forest Management Overview
June 15, 2025
•Forest Practices Application, a permit submitted to DNR
•Lasts for 3 years, gives permission to harvest to certain limit.
•It does not mean that harvesting is required.
What is an FPA?
•A variety of properties in East Jefferson County, ranging from Port
Townsend to Quilcene.
•Each of these properties have some forest health issues, generally
overstocking and lack of diversity, that can be improved through forest
management practices.
•These properties are targeted for selective harvesting and specifically for
selling slowly back into local mills.
•This is not to compete with other commercial forestry practices, it is an
additional management strategy supporting another angle.

•We are aiming to have 20% of the log sales go to small local mills, like the
Jefferson Timber Cooperative.
•We are also evaluating the potential for firewood sales from county low -
value wood.
•Working with local operators and helping to encourage more jobs in the
forestry sector.
What will happen to the wood?
•Jefferson County Forestry Tour -tentatively July 31 and August 1
