Establish a Youth Commission
•What is a Youth Commission?
A Youth Commission is a County Sponsored Commission comprised of youth drawn
from the community.
•What’s the purpose of the Youth Commission?
It’s a way of engaging youth in our community to help identify
issues/problems/opportunities and to perform research and recommend solutions to
the Board of County Commissioners
•How do you establish a Youth Commission?
•Board approves a resolution creating the commission.
•Resolution establishes commission membership.
•Members recruited and appointed.
•Commission staff present establishing documents for Board approval: charter, by-laws,
etc.
•Proposal for Establishing the Youth Commission:
•Reach out to school superintendents.
•Reach out to City of Port Townsend to gauge interest in participating.
•Resolution for Board consideration at 7 July 2025 BOCC meeting
•Advertise for volunteer board members.
•Appoint selected volunteers.
•Volunteer board brings establishment documents to the Board for
consideration.
•Solicit Youth Commission members.
•Get to work.
•Questions?

•Motion to approve moving forward?
